my story

As Head of Sync + A&R at Butter Music + Sound, I lead creative sync across advertising, film, branded content, and music supervision. My work spans music direction and discovery, licensing and negotiation, artist relationships, and collaborating with creatives to take an idea from a brief to the final mix.

Before Butter, I worked in creative sync at Glassnote Records, pitching music across film, television, advertising, and video games. I’ve since supervised independent films including Justin Kelly’s "Pretty Thing", DJed for brands and events including Netflix, DISCO, and KCRW's School Night, and brought my selections to NTS Radio as Mal D’Amour.

Almost 10 years of experience in the industry have given me an expansive musical world and a global network of artists, labels, publishers, managers, composers, and fellow music obsessives to match.

My process

I’ve spent most of my life collecting music. From songs ripped off LimeWire and burned onto mix CDs, to crate digging at record stores in my hometown of Dallas and the cities I’ve called home since (Seattle, Austin, and LA) to curating elaborate playlists that function more like diaries, I’ve always collected tiny pieces of sound that somehow become attached to a time, place, or person.

Somewhere along the way, I managed to alchemize that obsession into a career. I’m an LA-based music supervisor and Head of Sync + A&R at Butter Music + Sound, where I spend my days discovering artists, digging for music, and finding the right sound for film, advertising, and whatever else comes my way.

At night (and sometimes during the day), I DJ as Mal D’Amour, playing everything from disco and 80s new wave to house, synth pop, and songs from the 00s you'd almost forgotten.

Whether I’m soundtracking an ad project or film, putting together a mix, digging through records, or playing to a room at 1am, I’m mostly chasing the same feeling: finding the song you didn’t know you needed to hear.

Give me a feeling, a half-formed reference, a scene, a color, a decade, a song that’s almost right and I’ll disappear down the rabbit hole to find the perfect track or create a playlist that fits.
Sometimes the answer is a song everyone knows and sometimes it’s something you’ve never heard before. I tend to start wide and follow whatever thread feels interesting. Through old records, new releases, radio archives, forgotten corners of the internet, playlists within playlists within playlists. One song leads to another until suddenly, there it is.
I love music that feels a little unexpected but maybe obvious in hindsight. The kind of song that makes you say “oh my god, what is this??”
That’s usually when I know I’ve found it.
